This 15 Days Self Drive safari offers a chance to explore the most interesting and amazing wildlife and also enjoy beach life on the Indian Ocean. You will visit Masia Mara Game Reserve which is the highlight of the safari in Kenya, and see the red elephants in Tsavo National Park and other national parks in the country.
The self-drive safari also starts with reserving a 4×4 safari vehicle and you come into the country when you are sure to have a means of transport to take you around the country.
Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi
Upon your arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be welcomed by a driver from 4×4 Self Drive Africa Ltd who will show you everything about the car and even do the paperwork then you will get the car keys and drive to your hotel in Nairobi. As you will be transferring to your hotel, you will have a first impression of African life. Depending on the time you will arrive, you can opt to visit the Karen Blixen Museum or visit the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Orphanage.
Day 2: Transfer to the Maasai Mara
This day will start with an early morning breakfast at the lodge and then hit the road and transfer westwards to Masai Mara Game Reserve which is found at approximately 260km where you will reach around the afternoon hours have lunch and then take a first-afternoon game drive in the reserve. You will spend the evening hours around the campfire at the lodge.
Day 3: Game Drive in Masai Mara Game Reserve
Today after having a heavy breakfast, you will get ready for a full-day game drive to explore the beauty of the reserve. In case you visit in the autumn months, you will head to the Mara River to witness the famous migration where thousands of wildebeests and zebras cross the river in search of fresh pasture. In addition to that, the reserve has a lot to offer starting from African Big 5 or small animals. In the afternoon, you will return to the lodge for lunch and later you will go for an evening game drive where you will get a chance to spot a variety of animals in the park.
Day 4: Transfer to Naivasha National Park
Today you will have breakfast at the lodge and then get ready for a long drive of about 250km from Masai Mara to Naivasha National Park the park is recognized as a paradise for bird lovers. The park is believed to host over 400 different species of birds which can be spotted on the riverbanks of the lake. You will reach the park in the afternoon and check in at the lodge which will be overlooking the lake, a relaxed evening as you wait for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Drive to Amboseli National Park
On this day, you will wake up early in the morning for breakfast and then get ready for another long drive from Naivasha National Park to Amboseli National Park which is about 310km. You will pass through Nairobi where you will have lunch and then proceed to Amboseli National Park which is found on the foothill of Kilimanjaro Mountain, the journey will reward you with an amazing view of Africa’s Highest Mountain. You will reach the park around the afternoon for lunch and later in the evening, you will visit the Masai Village to get a chance to know more about the lifestyle of the nomads and learn about the natural medicine from the shrubs and trees.
Day 6: Game Drive in Amboseli National Park
After a heavy breakfast at the lodge, you will get ready for a full-day game drive in the park where you will have a chance to see a variety of animals like hippos, wildebeests, zebras, elephants, hyenas, and others. The day is filled with animal watching in a great landscape.
Day 7: Drive to Tsavo National Park
On the 7th day of this safari, you will wake up early for breakfast and then transfer to Tsavo National Park. The western part of the park will be the destination this day. The Shetani lava flows and the lava rocks of the Mzima springs make Tsavo West National Park a wonderful rugged wilderness.
Day 8: Full Day in Tsavo West National Park
This day will be reserved to explore Tsavo West National Park where you will get a chance to visit the Poacher’s Lookout you will see teeming herds on the level below. The park offers amazing game watching and the animals you will see in the park include; hippos, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, rhinos, buffalo, and lions among others. In the late afternoon, you will go and enjoy the sunset, and later you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 9: Off to the Indian Ocean
In the morning after breakfast, you continue towards Diani Beach. One last time you will have the opportunity to observe the animals in the park before you come to the sea via Mombasa on well-developed roads.
Day 10 – 14: Enjoy Sun and sand on the Indian Ocean
The next 4 days will be spent at Diani Beach where you will relax, rest and enjoy the sun and have the opportunity to take part in different activities on the beach for example you can take part in A dhow tour to the Kisite Marine National Park, sail on a dhow, the traditional sailing ship, you can watch dolphins and discover the fantastic underwater world while snorkeling. Lunchtime is fresh seafood on one of the islands, and while walking in the coral garden you will visit the slave caves in Shimoni.
Day 15: Departure
Today you will enjoy one last view of the ocean. In time for your return flight, you will transfer to Moi International Airport in Momasa where you will meet the agent from 4×4 Self Drive Africa Ltd to pick up the vehicle and then will board your return flight back home.
